Yacht Port Cartagena
A new marina in the port of Cartagena reviewed by Alan Norwood.
The boat owners group made our first visit to this new marina in late March 2008.
On approach we called the marina on channel 9 and were greeted by the marina staff in English and directed to our berths where the helpful staff assisted the skippers and crews secure their yachts. The berths we used were finger berths with full length fingers but there are also normal med berths with sinker lines. Beware though, the pontoons are very low. You need to set your fenders low (the bottom of your fenders should be close to the water line).
The booking in was straight forward and easy but with a little twist of luxury as we were taken to the office by golf cart. The cost of a one night stays including electric for a 12mt yacht was only 20 euros but the marina has yet to be finished and the marina office and toilet shower block are in porta cabins, although temporary facilities these were of a good standard with plenty of hot water in the showers and clean and well stocked with the necessary paper.
The marina is deep so those of you with deep keels need not worry and also has plenty of room to manoeuvre; the berths are well protected from the sea state so a good night’s sleep is almost guaranteed.
The historic citys, bars and restaurants are close by but if you need a large supermarket a taxi ride will be necessary.
When the marina is finished I believe the facilities will rate amongst the best on the coast. Although the cost per night may rise!
