The SAMM Race Program

As nice as it is pottering about on the Mar Menor, take your sailing to the next level and come and join in the fun and excitement of SAMM race days.

We run a Spring and Autumn Handicap Series on Sundays and one Wednesday a month for a mixed fleet of dinghies. Day boats and all boat owners and sailors of any Nationality, sex or age are welcome to join us. People without their own boat are normally invited to crew on one of our fleet. You need no previous racing experience as many of our competitors did not sail or race until they came to Spain.

Our only requirement for entry is that boats have third party and public liability insurance whilst racing and that you have some knowledge of the racing rules. We can help with the latter.

We normally run Average Lap Races as these suit our mixed fleet best, but also Pursuit Races on occasions, using the British RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Handicap System, and they follow the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing with a few local variations.

The start and finish are close to the jetty of the “CAR Center, Infanta Cristina” at Los Najeros, just south of St. Javier airport. Registration is at 10.00 am with an entry fee of 6€ per person per race day for SAMM members and 11€ for visitors. The income is used to run and maintain the support boat and purchase buoys and other equipment.
