⛵ Sailing Association Mar Menor (SAMM)

Where community, adventure, and the joy of sailing come together

With over 16 years of experience on the beautiful waters of the Mar Menor, the Sailing Association Mar Menor (SAMM) brings together a vibrant community of sailors who share a passion for the sea, good company, and the unique sailing environment of southern Spain.

Founded in 2006, SAMM provides a welcoming hub for anyone who loves being on the water — from seasoned skippers to complete beginners. While not a professional training school, the association’s experienced members are always on hand to help newcomers build confidence, improve their skills, and navigate the practicalities of sailing in Spain.

SAMM also supports members with the endorsement of non‑Spanish sailing qualifications and offers guidance for those seeking the basic Spanish Título, enabling legal skippering of small boats within coastal limits.

Members enjoy access to a diverse fleet and community, including:

  • Privately owned cruising yachts

  • Shared‑ownership groups for 18ft and 22ft day sailers

  • Dinghy groups

  • A dedicated motorboat group

Beyond the water, SAMM hosts a lively social calendar and an engaging race programme, both open to members and non‑members alike. Whether you’re looking to sail regularly, meet like‑minded people, or simply enjoy the maritime lifestyle of the Mar Menor, SAMM offers a friendly, supportive, and active sailing community.

The Mar Menor

SAMM (Sailing Association Mar Menor), is based on the shores of the Mar Menor in Murcia, southern Spain. We have over 300 days of sunshine each year and the climate is perfect for sailing.

The Mar Menor (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈmar meˈnor], "Minor sea") is a salty lagoon, in the south-east of the autonomous community of Murcia, in Spain, separated from the Mediterranean Sea by La Manga, a sandbar 22 km in length and with a width ranging from 100 to 1,200 metres. It belongs to four municipalities: Cartagena, Los Alcázares, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar. With a surface area of nearly 170 km², a coastal length of 70 km, and warm and clear water no more than 7 metres in depth, it is the ideal location to go sailing. Its relatively high salinity, which aids flotation, and remarkable sporting infrastructures make this one of the most popular places in Europe for a wide variety of water sports. If you want to enjoy sailing on the Mar Menor, you can get in touch by using our Contact Page on this website or  email the secretary
