Sailing and Social Group

We are a boat share group of friends enjoying sailing on the Mar Menor in our four 18ft sailing boats.

With this number of boats members are never short of a sail. Significant others or one other nominated family member can sail free at anytime and are always welcomed at all our social events and meetings.

We try to arrange a friendly group sail every week and Sunday morning (weather permitting) when members turn up and to enjoy a sail together. Quite often these “group sails” are followed by a lunch. We also arrange to sail to a beach or marina, have lunch (the non-sailing other halves have meet us via land) and then sail back, always very enjoyable.

If members want to sail on other days and need a crew/skip then an e-mail to the group members will usually result in someone being available to go out with you.

Sailing novices in our group are helped by our more experienced skips, who make learning to sail a most enjoyable experience. More experienced sailors will be given familiarization tuition.

You can join our group with a view to becoming a “skip” or to continue as crew with opportunities to helm on social sails.

If you have friends or family that want to go out then we ask a nominal donation of 10 Euros per day (not per person). We want people to enjoy the boats as much as possible.

All members can also use the boats to compete in the SAMM races, which are held on Sunday’s in the Spring and Autumn. We have enjoyed some success in the previous seasons and always look forward to race days.  The fleet is a mix of boats from dinghies to cruisers but the well administered handicap system always make the day interesting.

Our joining fee is 250 euros, We have an annual maintenance fee of 180 euros. Should members join during the year this fee is set at 15.00 euros per month.

The Mar Menor

SAMM (Sailing Association Mar Menor), is based on the shores of the Mar Menor in Murcia, southern Spain. We have over 300 days of sunshine each year and the climate is perfect for sailing.

The Mar Menor (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈmar meˈnor], "Minor sea") is a salty lagoon, in the south-east of the autonomous community of Murcia, in Spain, separated from the Mediterranean Sea by La Manga, a sandbar 22 km in length and with a width ranging from 100 to 1,200 metres. It belongs to four municipalities: Cartagena, Los Alcázares, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar. With a surface area of nearly 170 km², a coastal length of 70 km, and warm and clear water no more than 7 metres in depth, it is the ideal location to go sailing. Its relatively high salinity, which aids flotation, and remarkable sporting infrastructures make this one of the most popular places in Europe for a wide variety of water sports. If you want to enjoy sailing on the Mar Menor, you can get in touch by using our Contact Page on this website or  email the secretary
